PASAY CITY – New United States Transportation Security Administration (US-TSA) Attaché to the Philippines Mr. Robert Rouland pays courtesy call to Philippines’ Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Raul L. Del Rosario last Friday, 02 July 2021, as the two countries continue its partnership in strengthening global aviation security.
During the meeting, Mr. Rouland informed the OTS that he specifically requested his assignment in Manila, expressing his excitement to work with the OTS and other airport authorities. He also made mention of his previous assignments in the US Federal Government as International Auditor, Liaison Officer, Director on Compliance, and Certified Trainer, among others. Presently, his primary work with the TSA involved audits and assessment.
For his part, Usec. Del Rosario noted that the longstanding cooperation between the US and the Philippines led to the realization of several key projects to enhance civil aviation security in the Philippines. This includes capacity and capability initiatives involving provision of trainings, workshops, new and advanced security screening technologies.
To recall, US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) lifted the security advisory it issued in December 2018, citing significant improvements in security operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The DHS added that the airport authorities demonstrated that they are willing to work towards sustained improvements.
Notwithstanding the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, it did not prevent the OTS from performing its regulatory and oversight functions by conducting virtual security inspections of the security measures being implemented by airline and airport operators.
